DIY Surf Baby Shower Prep and Cost

DIY Projects and Cost for the Baby Shower

The first thing I thought was surfboards!
Like I mentioned on the shower planning postlot of the blogs said they got plywood to make the surfboards and I just didn't feel like going through all that. I bought poster boards from the craft store and cut out 2 surfboards from each poster board. Since I was going to stand them up on the food table, I just outlined the top shape. I used draft tape to make the patterns and spray paint. If I had more time, I would have painted some Hawaiian style flowers... but after cutting out the poster board with a exacto knife I got lazy.

I used spray paint from Michaels, Design master Colortool spray in Robin's Egg & Coral. I just used acrylic paint I had for the gray line. I also made little banner flags out of cardboard and hung it with twine over the surf boards.
I painted and cut out a sign to make Flora's Surf Shack with half the poster board. I just googled dolphines and looked for the easiest one to draw- not too realistic but able to tell it's a dolphin.

My friend Cassidy took home a poster board and made the Ovary chart for the game 'Pin the Sperm' . She cut out sperm from gray felt and we used double sided tape for it to stick.

Party Favors (Approximately 40 people) I really wanted something nice for the guests and loved the beach theme favors I saw. I decided to go for sunblock lip balm bags. Since the sunblock was just a mini size banana boat, I upgraded the lip balm option to Eos. For the men (only around 15) we put in a nicer trial size sunblock (banana boat cool mist) and a gag gift (condoms)... We were out of ideas.

So... I'll get to the cost break down here. I did it by store because I kept record of it by stores...

Moskatels (Michaels):  Spray paint, poster boards, fishnet, small seashells, table covers, disposable silverware, plastic plates, napkins, muslim bags for the party favors, fabric paint set - Around $160.00

Market: Grape tomatoes, mozzarella balls, beef (culotte), strawberries - $100.00. Beer, water - $45.00. Macaroons (from Whole Foods) got the baker's dozen special and cost $50.00 for 2 dozen.

Marshalls: Large seashells, drink dispenser and a tub to put the drinks in - $45.00

Dollar Store: Onesies! (i found onesies!!! they were perfect for the kids to decorate), mason jars for the flowers, baby bottles for bottle drinking game. - $40.00

Costco: 8 Eos Lip balm set of 5 for $10.99 and Bellenda Prossecco - $240.00

Daiso: Frame stand, laundry clips, beach ball, mini skewers - $7.00

Target: Fabric paint, fabric markers, trial size sunblock, trial size spray sunblock, baby goggles, baby swimming suit. More prossecco (we ran out on saturday) - $120.00

Floral (from Los Angeles Flower District): I love~ that i can go and pick out whatever I want. I just went for any flower that resembled a coral color. I bought 4 different kinds and spent 26 dollars. The flowers here are cheaper than the local market.

Chair & Table Rental: Gladly, they said they will pick up on Monday so I got to have the tables and chairs for the weekend for one days price. - $47 + $15 delivery fee (I think delivery fee depends on the distance). For 4 long tables and 20 standard chairs from Family Party Rentals.

Things we already had: Food platter trays, basil, paint, tape, twine.

In all, we spent about 900 dollars (and I think 100 more on little knick knacks here and there that I can't recall).

For us, this was a great success. Much better than trying to rent out a space at a restaurant for 2-3 grands.
