So once we got back from Rio, we were car-less and had 2 1/2 days left.
2nd to last day, we spent with family by going out with the cousins to this really cool restaurant called Mocoto. Gosh darn it, they had this amazing spicy oil that was gifted to us from the restaurant but I gave it to my mother-in-law since she loves spicy sauce as well.. and while we were here, I finally got see a painted telephone booth!! I was so excited! Such a tourist.

I stole my cousin in law's photo because I forgot to take all the food photos. |
The artwork in Sao Paulo is pretty grand, I know I took some photos while we were driving around town but I've lost track of them. The graffiti tags may be ugly but there are some really good pictures out there.
Finally saw one!!! |
Medical Care
I know... we've all passed at the offers to get travelers insurance and this happened. I tried to research if I can get compensated for any of the medical expenses but it was all on us. On a good note, compared to the US-urgent care cost was substantially less. I remember going to the ER before obamacare and being slapped with a 11,000 dollar bill for pain due to indigestion. I've seen videos where Brazilian hospitals just let pregnant woman give birth in the waiting room or people laying in one spot for hours unoticed-but I'm just hoping that was a isolated case where that hospital needs to shut down. Plus, I saw the same type of videos for US hospitals too. Point was, the closest hospital I went to was right next to our hotel, Hospital 9 de Julho and they saw both of us promptly. My husband also argues the prompt service is because we went to a private hospital. When Flora went in for high fever (trust me, we were freaking out because she has never went past 101 before and she reached 104), our child was seen within 30 minutes; they gave her a urgent bracelet, probably because she was a baby. All was well and we just spent the night cooling her down with warm towels. I should've seen it coming with my history of indigestion (probably from all the meat stacking up) and a really nice dinner with Coco Bambu was the last straw for me. When I went in for pain, I waited about 2 hours? 3 in the morning. Was hooked on IV plus anti-nausea medication with some pain reliver. Overall, we were both taken care of swiftly compared to the ER back home. The cost for both of us combined came out to less than 600 US dollars. We could've bought more souvenirs with that money but I am grateful that it wasn't 11,000.
Poor husband, last day in Brazil with no sleep... we were out of the hospital by 6am, checked out of our hotel, moved our belongings to grandma's house! We went to go eat lunch with the fam one last time. I didn't eat of course (wish I can insert the crying emoticon here). After lunch, I took a power-nap and we ate grandma lee's homemade dinner before taking off to the airport.
